The students in music class have a variety of hands-on musical experiences. In keyboard lab, the students' learn piano and composition skills to transposition skills and chord accompaniments of melodies. In the music lab, the students share laptops to explore a variety of music skills and listening games.
The children had a great experience with rhythms in drumming circles with new Afro-Cuban drums paid for by a special budget from the school district. Fourth and fifth grade students played recorders and learned to play styles from simple folksongs to jazz and Christmas music. Grades 1 - 3 performed in winter concerts in December.
The Gates Honors Choir performs a winter concert at Beaupre, Bardwell and Sunnymere Retirement Center. The seniors love the kids and the choir really enjoys giving to the elderly community. The choir always try to have more community service and a spring show.
