The fifth graders at Gates School annually attend three days of outdoor recreation at the Lorado Taft campus. Students pack for their stay ahead of time, get letters from their families (to help with homesickness) and take the bus to Oregon, Illinois. The campus is situated along the Rock River, and provides an outstanding program with many outdoor experiences. Every year, the staff and students hope for good weather in November or December.
Some of the activities include finding the Alpha wolf at night, hiking along a moonlit trail, hopping in the dining area during mealtimes, sleeping in barrack style dorms, building survival shelters, and going on nature walks along the Rock River. Lorado Taft campus is within a beautiful woods, and the dining hall overlooks the river bluffs and many bird feeders.
Below are a few photos of this year's trip. It was fantastic!
